General information

The main academic and scientific activity directions

The Department of Banking was founded in 1996. It is the leading Department for the full-time and correspondence programs of students’ training in the specialties of “Banking” (code 7.050105 and 8.050105) and “Accounting and audit in bank management” (code 8.050106) specialties.

The Department of Banking stuff offers training of specialized disciplines for employees of commercial banks and the National Bank of Ukraine, who attend thematic seminars and in-service training courses for state servants.

The scientific guidance (consultations) for post-graduates and persons working for the Candidate of Economic Sciences degree (Doctor of Economic Sciences degree) in the specialty of “Money, finance and credit” (code 08.00.08) scientific speciality are provided at the Department.

A complex of banking and financial activity disciplines are provided to training for students of all specialities given in the Academy by the Department of Banking.

The Department of Banking stuff is formed of professional experts possessing sufficient scientific background and practical experience. There are 15 lecturers including 2 persons with the Doctor of Economic Sciences degree, 11 persons with Candidate of Economic Sciences (PhD) degree. Two persons possesses positions of Professor, 6 persons are Associate Professors at the Department of Banking.

Educational process is maintained by the Educational training bank Director, Head of information technology laboratory and an assistant.

Educational training complex “AcademBank” is functioning at the Department.

Over 25 disciplines and special courses are taught by the Department of Banking stuff. Essential complex of contemporary science and methodology procurement is established and renewed by it on an ongoing basis.

Research

During 1996-2011 the Department of Banking carries diverce by forms and subjects scientific work.

Stuff of the Department annually publishes several tens scientific articles in professional editions in which actual problems of banks institutions and bank system functioning are analyzed.

Employee of the Department take active part in the work of national and international scientific and practical conferences annually.

Some of the Department’s stuff are working on theses on the Doctor of Economic Sciences and Candidate of Economic Sciences (PhD) degrees.

Areas of research are fundamental, their subject is characterized by novelty and relevance.

Main areas of research are:

  • strategic management’s methodological approaches of the banking system financial stability;
  • restructuring of the Ukrainian banking system in the context of globalization.

Furthermore the Department is engaged in applied researches, aimed at improving the efficiency of banking institutions activity, including:

  • models and modern instruments of mortgage lending in Ukraine;
  • organization of the internal economics of the bank;
  • improving the risk prediction model of banks' credit activity.

Research rezults are implemented in practice of banking institutions activity through seminars, exchange of information, practical assistance to specialists, and are also used in educational process during teaching of new courses and updating the content of basic subjects.

The structure of the Department also includes the Educational training complex “AcademBank”a training bank. This is a unique training complex which was created for the introduction of the dual system of students’ training at the Academy. Unlike traditional forms and methods in teaching, the dual system is aimed at minimizing the gap between theory and practice.

The department operates the scientific research group, in which students who wish to be engaged in scientific work, are conducted under the guidance of Department stuff in their researches, prepare scientific reports on banking issues and take part in national contests and olympiads.

Main achievements in scientific research

  1. Yevsiyenko Miroslav (gr. BS-01) – 1st prize and Litvyakov George (gr. BS-02) – 2nd prize - winners of All-Ukrainian student olympiad in the specialty of "Banking" for students of bachelor level (Odessa, 2004);
  2. Shulik Victor (gr. BS-01) - winner of the All-Ukrainian ontest of scientific and graduate works "Current problems and prospects of the Ukrainian financial and credit system (Kharkiv, 2004);
  3. Pirkovets Marina (gr. MBS-11), Rybalka Olena (gr. MBS-11) and Fedirko Victoria (gr. MBS-11) – prizewinners of All-Ukrainian contest of student works in banking "Ukrainian banking system - creation of youth" (Kharkiv , 2006);
  4. Ponomaryov Volodymyr (gr. MBS-21) - winner of the All-Ukrainian contest of student’s research in natural sciences, humanities and engineering sciences in the specialty of "Banking" (Kharkiv, 2007);
  5. Rebryk Mikhaylo (gr. BS-31) - winner (3rd prize) in All-Ukrainian student contest in the specialty of "Banking" for students of bachelor level (Kyiv, 2007);
  6. Pashkurova Nadiya (gr. MBS-41) - winner of the All-Ukrainian contest of student’s research in natural sciences, humanities and engineering sciences in the specialty of "Banking;
  7. Kachayev Oleksiy (gr. BS-52) – 2nd prize and Buryak Anna (gr. MBS-41) – 3rd prize – prizewinners of All-Ukrainian student’s olympiad in the specialty of "Banking" (Lviv, 2009);
  8. Bohma Serhiy (gr. BS-63) - winner (2nd degree Diploma) of the 2nd tour of the VII All-Ukrainian student’s olympiad for the prize of UniCredit Group initiated by JSCB “Ukrsotsbank” (Kyiv, 2010);
  9. Kozyrev Vadym (gr. BS-73) winner of the All-Ukrainian contest of student’s scientific research on natural, technical and humanitarian sciences, specialty "Banking" (Kharkiv, 2010);
  10. Oystryk Andriy (gr. BS-62) - received a 2nd degree Diploma as a result of participation in the International scientific and practical conference of graduate and postgraduate students "Problems of the Ukrainian financial system development”(Simferopol, 2010);
  11. Kachayev Oleksiy (gr. MBS-51) – 1st prize and Mishenina Marina (gr. BS-63) – 2nd prize - winners of All-Ukrainian student contest in the specialty of "Banking" (Lviv, 2010).

Training and Methodology Development

One of the priorities of the Department is providing the educational process with training and methodology materials and improving the quality of the teaching of the department disciplines assigned to the Department’s stuff.

The main directions of methodology work are:

  • development and improvement of methodological provision of educational courses;
  • introduction of new technologies in education;
  • development and completion of materials and methods of current knowledge control;
  • publication of its own modern textbooks and tutorials for academic disciplines;
  • providing clarity in teaching disciplines.

International relations

International activities of the Department aims to integrate into the international scientific and educational community by expanding relationships with leading universities and research organizations. Specifically, in 2011 Department’s employees continue cooperation with Educational institutions "Belarusian State Economic University” (Minsk, Belarus) and the National Research University "Higher School of Economics "(Russia, Moscow). In the framework of this cooperation the the joint development of scientific topics and participating of partners professors in scientific conferences is envisaged.

Lecturers and students of the Department were trained abroad: University of Applied Sciences of the Deutsche Bundesbank in Hachenburg (Germany), Hochschule Osnabrück – University Of Applied Sciences (Germany), Institute for teacher’s training of the Financial Academy under the government of Russia (Moscow, Russia); internship ATTF Programme (Luxembourg).

Specialist in the specialty of “Banking” is prepared to perform professional functions for certain types of economic activity, the list of which depends on gained qualification level.

Specialist in the educational qualification level of "Bachelor" specialty of "Banking " can occupy the following positions:

  • dealer and broker of mortgages and financial transactions;
  • loan inspector;
  • inspector of exchange;
  • accountant;
  • cashier.

Specialist in the educational qualification level of "Specialist " specialty of "Banking " can occupy the following positions:

  • accountant-expert;
  • inspector-auditor;
  • auditor;
  • economist;
  • economist in finances, foreign exchange transactions, money circulation;
  • economic adviser.

Specialist in educational qualification level of "Master" specialty of "Banking " can occupy the following positions:

  • lecturers in higher education institutions;
